The Hood aka Belah Gaat

The Hood aka Belah Gaat

The Hood, who was never actually given a name (or even called the Hood) in the series or movies, is a mask-wearing master of disguises and at various times an agent, a baddie-for-hire, a man who wants the secrets of International Rescue for his own gain and an independently wealthy bad guy. He lives in a temple in the Malaysian jungle. This recurring arch enemy to International Rescue was voiced by actor Ray Barrett, who also voiced John Tracy.

In this story, Jeff is showing Lady Penelope around the island, and she asks “Who else knows about International Rescue?”
Jeff replies “There was a suspicion that a character based in the Far East knew something of the set-up; he goes under the melodramatic name of 'The Hood'. If he is aware of the organisation's existence, he's keeping it to himself. So far our security has been 100% on the ball.”

'Our cast of regular players was beginning to come together but no drama would be complete without the arch villain. Thus the Hood was created and became the character that everyone loved to hate. A master of disguise, with an almost psychopathic hatred of International Rescue, he featured heavily in the opening episodes, but never really seized the imagination of the audience - at least not nearly as much as we had hoped.'Anderson, Sylvia. 'Some characters in the series inevitably worked better than others and account for there being, in later episodes, less of the Hood and less of Kyrano, both of whom turned out to be less viable on the screen than on the page.'Anderson, Sylvia. Yes, M'Lady. Smith Gryphon, 1991 ISBN 1856850110 p. 26
